Apartment Complex First Look — Shops, Rentals, Softcore Changes & More

Rust has some interesting updates being worked on right now, and one of the biggest things players are getting a first look at is the new Apartment Complex monument.

This new monument looks like it could be more than just another loot spot. From what is being tested, the Apartment Complex is being built around rentable rooms, player shops, trading, and safe-zone-style interactions.

Apartment Complex First Look

The Apartment Complex has a worn-down city block feel, with tall apartment buildings, shopfronts, streets, utility poles, elevators, turrets, and small details that make it feel like a real part of the Rust world.

The biggest part of this update is the rental system. Players may be able to rent spaces inside the monument, including small shops and apartment-style rooms.

Since this is still being tested, everything can change before release, but the idea alone is pretty cool. It could give players a new way to trade, stash items, or set up temporary space without building a full base.

Rentable Shops

One of the more interesting features is the shop rental system.

Players may be able to rent a shop, stock it with items, and sell to other players from inside the Apartment Complex. This could make trading feel a lot more active and give players another option besides placing vending machines at their own base.

If this goes live in its current direction, the Apartment Complex could become a busy trading area on wipe.

Apartment Rentals

The apartment rooms seem to work more like temporary rented spaces than normal bases.

Different room tiers may include different items and utilities, such as sleeping bags, storage, workbenches, furnaces, beds, phones, and other useful pieces.

This could be useful for players who want a safer place to regroup, trade, or temporarily store some items while moving around the map.

Safe Zone and Room Rules

The outside of the Apartment Complex appears to have safe-zone-style protection, with turrets helping control the area.

The rented rooms are where things may get more interesting. Current testing suggests that apartment rooms may not work exactly like a full safe zone. Combat rules, room damage, and how weapons work inside rented spaces are still being worked on.

Because this is still staging content, the final rules may change before the feature is fully released.

Softcore Changes

Softcore is also getting some testing changes.

One of the biggest changes being looked at is raid windows. The goal seems to be making Softcore less punishing for players who do not want to lose everything while offline. Outside of raid windows, certain base parts may be protected from explosive and projectile damage.

Softcore is also being tested with increased gather rates, which could make the mode feel faster and more forgiving for casual players.

Charity Plushies

New charity plushies are also being worked on. Rust has done charity items in the past, so this looks like another round of limited-time cosmetic items tied to real-world causes.

More details should come once the items are closer to release.

Satellite Crash Progress

The satellite crash event is still being worked on as well.

Recent testing appears to be focused on crash locations, map UI, targeting, and making sure the event can land properly on the map. There is not a full gameplay breakdown yet, but the event is clearly still moving forward.

Final Thoughts

The Apartment Complex is the main thing to watch right now. Rentable shops and apartment rooms could bring a new layer of trading, temporary housing, and player interaction to Rust.

As always, this is staging content, so anything can still change before it reaches live servers.

We will keep an eye on it and post more updates once more details are confirmed.
